The art of collecting photography

Guys. From Poland with love.

About exhibition

Exhibition until 3.04.

An inspiration for these photos was a word ‘gayes’. Some time ago my ear caught this name, when there appeared a lot of noise around laws for sexual minorities in Poland. Many people, who didn’t know the plural for gay, used the name ‘gayes’. Usually, their knowledge concerning homosexual people was a slender one but their comments were rather pejorative. That’s how I started to think, who these ‘gayes’ are that people kept telling so strange and horrible things about them. I thought that I wouldn’t consider this name to be a faulty one but I estimate it was a new language product that determinates different from gays, unknown to me a social group and I was going to document the group’s image in my photos.

So this series became a quasi-document that presents an existence of the society that hasn’t been in photos so far. Guys. From Poland with love – is an impression about the issue, who these ‘gayes’ really are. These photos, deconstructing a social image of gays, de facto demonstrate men of different identities, not necessarily homosexual ones.
